Grant to Master Captain Chauvin, of the Island of Bourbon, of Cape Breton, and other parts of the eastern portion of New France : January 15, 1600.

A letter patent granting Pierre Chauvin the right to explore and colonize French North America. This was not to be done to the detriment of the Marquis de la Roche, the governor-general of New France, who had received a general patent in 1598 giving him full powers over the territory of French held North America.
